Injury Prevention: Tailbone

Snowboarding:  the most exciting winter sport you can imagine.  But tailbone protection equipment is absolutely necessary.  When you’re on your snowboard, you can reach speeds of up to 35 mph.  That’s when tailbone protection is really important.  Because if you fall (and you will fall, you know you will,) your tailbone is the most vulnerable part of your body.  And without proper protection, your tailbone can be seriously injured.  Not only can you experience severe pain and discomfort, but you can find yourself on the snowboard sidelines for the rest of the snowboarding season.

“My AZZPAD is on everytime I ride.  It seriously cushions and spreads that pain you usually get from high speed butt contact.  Get one and ride harder.”  - Eric Searle, Expert Rider

About:  We learned to snowboard with a group of 8 friends during a 2 day trip.  Five of us were in dire need of protection while the other 3 would come join our group as the season progressed.  We were advised to wear old hockey pants or stuff a pillow down the backs of our pants.  Snowboarding can be very unforgiving to beginners, but it doesn’t have to be that way.  Jay and I thought, “this is ridiculous”, so we looked around for suitable protection and found nothing!  Further searches via the Internet provided us with several companies in the U.S. marketing “tailbone protection pants”, all of which offered “foam only” protection.  Neither one of us thought that foam alone would offer complete protection.  This reasoning lead us to incorporate a flexible plastic shell into the AZZPAD.  The 8 of us are still boarding, still falling and of course, fully protected!

Do Snowboarders Workout?

Of Course!  At least the ones you hear about do.

If they dont workout you better believe that they stretch, and most likely they stretch religously.  Snowboarding is very demanding on  muscles you dont’t use throughout the common daily activity.  Your lower back, quads, and abdoman muscles get an extreme workout everytime you strap into that shred stick and ride down the hill.

Most snowboarders do Pilates to keep their bodies in some sort of “top” physical shape.  Alot of them tend to avoid the gym to keep their hardcore appeal.  So alot of them spend time doing floor excercises an hiking in the backcountry.
